It is interesting to know how long it’s going to take you to start making money from your blog, especially if you are just getting started.

In this post, we’ll break down exactly

  • How long bloggers take to start making money
  • The typical timelines it takes and why
  • Including proven factors that contribute to it

How Long Does It Take To Make Money Blogging

You can start making money from your blog anywhere within your 3 – 24 months of blogging. For most bloggers, it typically takes 6-12 months to begin seeing a reasonable steady income, as this period allows them to create and publish more blog posts, get higher Google rankings, and build an audience that can generate income.

However, for some others, it can take 12-24 months or more. If they are in a highly competitive niche, are less consistent, or take longer to learn and implement working content creation and marketing strategies.

Typical Time Range Bloggers Start Making Money And Why

[1]. 3 – 6 Months [Amazing Time Range]

A blogger can start growing a more steady income approaching their third to 6 months of blogging. They may have generated little income before this time [3-6 months] but it reasonably starts to grow approaching their 3rd to 6th month of blogging. This is due to their fast content creation efforts and traffic growth.

Why this range;

  • This type of blogger already understands what they need to do and starts to work.
  • They are likely not beginners [not their first time], they are guided by a pro or following a course, have capital, etc.
  • They assemble and target important niche posts and try to complete them as fast as possible.
  • They are focused on one niche which increases their chance of ranking faster in the search result.
  • They focus on one or two effective methods of monetization like affiliate recommendations or display ads.
  • They also may actively promote their blog posts on social media or through cheap ads. These promotional efforts can help boost their initial traffic and ignite their high-ranking Google search performance in the search results.

6 – 12 Months [Common Time Range]

Not as effective as the one discussed earlier some bloggers take 6-12 months to start seeing a reasonable amount of income grow. This time might have been due to focus in content creation and promotion which have taken them this long to get to.

Why this range;

  • They know what to do but don’t have a strong strategy to get to their earning goals.
  • They make a list of target posts, assemble them, and get to work. Some of these posts may be irrelevant which aid in causing delays in their earnings.
  • They publish one after another and start monetizing these posts either with ads or affiliates. Their type of niche can impact their success rate due to exposure to stronger competitors.
  • They may promote their posts a few times to attract readers. In some cases, this is enough to help increase their organic search traffic from Google.
  • Their traffic will fluctuate and include their earnings, but after 6 – 12 months they will get to see a reasonable increase in revenue.

12 – 24+ Months Plus [Not Very Common]

This category of bloggers is more reluctant and doesn’t know exactly what to do. They are very inconsistent and sometimes begin to learn what’s better to do. Due to failure in their current effort yielding positive results.

They slowly start discovering what to do and start implementing right within this period they can slowly grow their traffic and income to a reasonable extent.

Why this range:

  • They don’t know exactly what to do and may treat blogging as a hobby for several months.
  • They begin to learn and ask themself what type of post will make me more and drive traffic to my site.
  • They gradually start concentrating on this type of posts
  • They also gradually add to their site post and start monetizing
  • They will do many things wrongly but recover over time.
  • They may never promote their posts or rarely do so.

Factors That Can Contribute To How Long It Takes Before A Blog Starts Making Money

Other factors can contribute to how long it takes to start making money from a blog which I may not have covered when I was illustrating this different time range above.

Below you will find other factors that truly contributes to when a blogs start making money and how long it takes a blog to start making money.

[1]. Niche [Market Demand & Competition]

  • Market Demand: Choosing a profitable niche with high demand and monetization potential can lead to quicker income generation. A well-chosen niche attracts a specific audience, making it easier to monetize through targeted ads, affiliate marketing, and sponsored content.
  • Competition Level: A niche with moderate competition can be easier to break into and start earning from, compared to highly saturated or competitive ones.

[2]. Type of Blog Posts You Publish [Money or Traffic Posts]

Publishing relevant posts that directly can be monetized or that have a decent high search volume can increase a blog’s income and how fast it makes it.

For Example;

If a blog post can directly be monetized with an affiliate product/service it can start making money with a very small number of visitors and this can possibly start making money even within its first day of being published even though this is rare.

This simply illustrates how fast you can start generating income depending on the type of posts you are publishing even with a little traffic.

[3]. Blogger’s Learning Curve

As a blogger, you have to keep learning constantly, and the level of skill and knowledge acquisition over time differs for different bloggers. So acquiring the right knowledge and skills can help a blogger apply strategies that work which can help them to generate income faster.

A longer learning curve in SEO, content creation, and monetization strategies can lead to faster results.

For example:

Focusing on completing several posts and updating them over time will help you build traffic quickly. You can monetize these posts immediately and start generating income gradually almost instantly in some cases, and still can always go back to update those posts to be of their best quality. This is better than wasting up to one month in some cases to complete a single post.

[4]. Number of Completed Posts

Just like my example above completing a high number of posts as fast as possible is perhaps the most significant impact on your blog’s traffic and income. The faster you complete posts the faster you build traffic and generate income.

Some beginners waste most of their time reviewing their blog’s analytics, in some cases, they may be obsessed with building backlinks rather than focusing on increasing their profitable posts strategically. This can impact how long it can take to start making money as a blogger, especially as a beginner. Profitable blog post topic ideas in different niches to write about

[5]. Posts Satisfaction Level

Content that meets reader’s needs and expectations increases their conversion rate and the time visitors spend on it which positively impacts your search ranking overall.

If indeed visitors show a good sign of satisfaction basically by spending more time on your page. Your posts will likely have a high conversion rate, and not only that but will be favored by Google’s ranking which helps it perform well in the search results and even attracts more traffic that will convert. The secret to how to write a high-quality post that satisfies your audience.

[6]. Blogging Capital

Some bloggers get started with a big budget while some barely get started.

In this case, those with big budgets can easily scale content creation, build backlinks, or even employ a few team members to streamline this process and become highly productive.

This can have a significant impact on their blog traffic growth and income, whereas most bloggers don’t have the same opportunity and can’t scale as much and as a result get a slower growth in their income.

As someone with a very little budget to start a blog, you can make a list of your most important blogging requirement to ensure you do the most important things first.

The good thing is that starting a blog is not costly with most web hosting providers.

[7]. Monetization Methods

Some people utilize multiple monetization methods (affiliate marketing, ads, sponsored posts, digital products) and increase their chances of generating more income faster, while others may use one method which may slow their earnings.

This is very direct and simple.
